Corona and drinking water: no transmission confirmed!

Corona and drinking waterThe Corona Virus (COVID-19) panedemic influences and affects our society and our daily lives with an unprecedented global intensity. We are affected by travel bans, schools and business closings and quarantines since the begin of 2020. Several vaccines are now approved and scientists around the world are continiously working to better understand the Virus and its transmission.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the World Health Agency (WHO) no Corona Virus have yet been found in drinking water. It is also pointed out that the probability of transmission in this way is classified as low. Corona Viruses have so far only been detected in one river in northern Italy (Rimoldi SG, Stefani F, Gigantiello A, Polesello S, Comandatore F, Mileto D, et al. Presence and vitality of SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewaters and rivers. medRxiv. 2020:2020.05.01.20086009). The virus is believed to have come from untreated wastewater that was discharged into the river. However, there are no confirmed infections du to these viruses found in the river.

Increased Legionella in drinking water due to the COVID-19 crises

Legionella can multiply best if the water pipe is not used for a long time. Due to the lockdown during the Corona waves, this was more common in business and leisure facilities as well as second homes. According to the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) it is recommended to flush water pipes thoroughly if they have not been in use for a long time.

To make sure that your water pipe and your drinking water are not contaminated and free from Legionella, we offer you a professional water analysis by our accredited laboratory.
