Glyphosate is the main component of several total or broad-spectrum herbicides used primarily in agriculture to kill weeds. It is produced both as an acid and as a salt.
Its effect on human health remains controversial: the WHO's International Agency for Research on Cancer has classified it as "probably carcinogenic". As one of the most popular weedkillers, glyphosate inevitably enters the environment when it is applied to fields. In this way, glyphosate is also repeatedly detectable in surface waters and groundwater. The risk of glyphosate being detected in drinking water can therefore not be completely ruled out.
The limit value for glyphosate according to the Drinking Water Ordinance is 0.1 µg/l (drinking water limit value for pesticides). A proposed increase in the draft of the revised Water Protection Ordinance was not implemented after considerable resistance.
This test shows you whether residues of the pesticide glyphosate can be detected in your drinking water.
Reasons why a water test can be useful for you:
- You consume your tap water regularly.
- The water shows abnormalities in color, smell or taste.
- There are people with a weak immune system or risk groups (babies, children, pregnant women or sick people) living in your household.
- The water is used to prepare baby food.
- You use your tap water for a soda maker.
