Product information "Water Analysis PFAS"
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as “forever chemicals”, are increasingly entering our food chains and can also be detected in drinking water. Certain PFAS are suspected to be harmful to health or even carcinogenic.
In Switzerland, there are currently limit values for three PFAS compounds: PFOS (0.3 µg/L), PFHxS (0.3 µg/L) and PFOA (0.5 µg/L). The European Union has already gone a step further and classifies 20 PFAS compounds as relevant from a health perspective, each with a limit value of 0.1 µg/L. Switzerland plans to adopt these stricter requirements in 2026.
At Umweltcheck, we already analyse your sample according to the more stringent and detailed EU standard. Naturally, this also includes the PFAS compounds specified by the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO). In some laboratories, this analysis is also referred to as WEU20.
With the PFAS Water Analysis, you can test your drinking water specifically for these chemicals.
Reasons why a water analysis can be useful for you:
- You consume your tap water regularly.
- The water shows unusual colour, odour or taste.
- There are vulnerable people in your household (babies, children, pregnant women or people with weakened immune systems).
- You use the water to prepare baby food.
- You want to test your water for PFAS and other modern contaminants.
- You use your tap water in a soda maker.
