FAQ about our Environmental Analyses – Frequently Asked Questions and Helpful Answers
Our FAQ provides a quick overview of the most important questions regarding our water analyses, mould analyses and sample shipping. You will learn how the process works, how long the evaluation takes and what to consider during sampling. You will also find information on laboratory certifications, results, filter tests and specific topics such as legionella or surface contact samples. This compact overview helps you prepare your analysis effectively and interpret the results correctly.
General Questions
I submitted two analyses but received only one result. Where is the second one?
As soon as the second sample has been analysed, you will automatically receive the report by email. Each sample is evaluated individually, so the results may arrive at different times.
I mailed the sample on Monday after 12 noon. Is that a problem?
No. The only important thing is that refrigerated samples do not remain at the post office over the weekend. If you send the sample on Monday afternoon, it usually arrives with us by Wednesday at the latest.
I mailed the sample on Tuesday. Is that a problem?
This is also not an issue. The sample should arrive with us on Wednesday or at the latest on Thursday. What matters is that the shipment does not run over the weekend.
What is included in the price of the analysis?
The price includes the complete service:
- Shipping for sample collection and return shipping
- Analysis in a certified laboratory
- Detailed report with evaluation
There are no additional costs.
How difficult is the sample collection?
The sample collection is very simple. Together with the sample container, you will receive clear, step-by-step instructions showing how to collect the sample correctly.
I was unable to reach you by phone. What should I do?
We are often out conducting sample collections. Please feel free to send us an email at kontakt@umweltcheck.ch or use the contact form. We will get back to you as quickly as possible.
I have been waiting for my result for over four weeks. What can I do?
Please first check your spam folder. In rare cases, our reports may end up there. If you cannot find anything, please send us a short message to kontakt@umweltcheck.ch.
I have a water filter and would like to test whether it works. How should I proceed?
Ideally, take one sample before the filter and one sample after the filter. This allows you to clearly see which substances are actually being retained.
Can I receive a certificate for my analysis?
Yes. We are happy to provide you with a certificate covering the analysed parameters.
Is the result legally binding in court?
Since the sample collection is carried out by yourself, the result is not legally binding. In practice, however, it is often sufficient to clarify disputes or avoid legal proceedings.
Technical Questions
Can I submit pool water, wastewater or heavily contaminated water instead of drinking water?
Unfortunately not. Our analyses are designed specifically for drinking water. Heavily contaminated samples can damage our sensitive measuring equipment.
I am unsure whether I should order a mould contact plate test or an indoor air test
Contact plate: if the mould is visible and easily accessible.
Indoor air: if the mould is not visible or difficult to access.
What is the difference between a mould contact plate analysis and an indoor air analysis?
With the contact plate analysis, the culture medium is placed directly onto the mould surface.
With the indoor air analysis, the culture medium is placed in the room, allowing mould spores from the air to settle and be analysed.
Is my tap water safe to drink?
This cannot be answered in general terms. There are millions of chemicals that can pose a health risk. In our analyses, we test for the most common substances and adhere to the limit values and requirements of the Swiss drinking water regulations.
Which water analysis do you recommend for a general assessment of my drinking water?
Our most popular option is the Combi water analysis, as it includes physical and chemical parameters as well as bacteria.
Which analysis do you recommend for my shower?
For shower water, we recommend a Legionella analysis. If you also drink the water, the Combi Plus water analysis is the best choice.
Why does my analysis take so long?
Some samples must be incubated in the laboratory. Depending on the type of analysis, this process can take several days up to three or four weeks.
Is the laboratory certified?
Yes. Our laboratory is certified according to DIN EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018.
The sample container for bacteria or Legionella contains a few drops of liquid. Is that a problem?
No. The liquid is sodium thiosulfate, which neutralises chlorine in the water and keeps the bacteria stable. The container is correctly prepared.
