Mold in the bathroom

What is mold?

Mold (also called mold fungi) refers to a heterogeneous group of filamentous fungi, mostly belonging to the taxonomic groups of ascomycetes and zygomycetes. Most molds go unnoticed by humans and are harmless. However, there are various dangerous types of mold. They are human parasites and cause various infectious diseases. Many are familiar with ugly black spots that appear in damp areas of a house, often in the bathroom. But what can you do when black mold appears in the bathroom? And how can it be identified when there are no visible black spots yet? This will be explained below.

Mold Analysis

First of all, a mold analysis should be performed. There are two good methods for this: either a "mold test for air" or a "mold analysis swab". Mold in the air can cause skin irritations, allergies, or asthma. Additionally, headaches, mucous membrane irritations, or other infections may occur. Mold in the home should be detected quickly in any case. The "mold air test" allows mold spores in the air to be detected. This test is easy to use and requires no special knowledge. Samples can be taken according to instructions, sent to a lab, and results are received within 2–3 weeks. The report is detailed and clearly presents mold genera and exposure levels. With the "mold swab test," you can determine the type of mold infestation directly. Samples are sent to a lab, and a detailed report with all relevant information is provided.

Home Remedies for Mold Infestation

Once mold is diagnosed, action should be taken. Simple home remedies can help with light mold infestations. To remove minor mold, cleaning alcohol or denatured alcohol is highly effective. The alcohol content should be at least 70 percent, which can be found in most supermarkets. For mold on smooth surfaces, vinegar essence is suitable but ineffective against mold spores, so it should only be used for minimal mold growth. Baking soda is another option, commonly available in households. To treat black spots in the bathroom, mix baking soda with water into a paste, apply it with an old toothbrush, and rub it on the affected areas. Be cautious not to scratch delicate surfaces, such as marble.

How to Use Home Remedies to Remove Mold

If black mold appears in the bathroom and you want to use home remedies, wear protective gear to shield yourself from toxic spores and fumes. Protective equipment includes gloves, a mask, and goggles. Begin by ventilating the bathroom thoroughly. Open the window wide for proper ventilation. Apply alcohol or vinegar to a cleaning cloth, then wipe the black spots until they disappear. For stubborn mold, let the solution sit briefly before rinsing with clean water and drying the area thoroughly. Inspect the bathroom afterward for other infestations. Dispose of any furniture, towels, or bath mats affected by mold.
